Travel to Karuma Falls using the Kampala–Gulu Highway, immediately south of where the highway crosses the River Nile. Karuma Falls is approximately 97 kilometres (60 mi), by road, northeast of Masindi and approximately 77 kilometres (48 mi), by road, south of Gulu, the largest city in Northern Uganda.

Travel from Kampala to Karuma falls

The road drive to Karuma falls is about 4-5 hours via the Kampala – Luweero – Kakoge – Nakasongola – Kibangya – Kigumba – Bweyale and finally to Karuma Village a distance of about 305 kilometres.

Travelling to Karuma falls is quit a tiresome road drive depending on the route you take. A direct or longer route covers a road drive of about 135 kilometres. You can however use the other Option, Driving passed by the Budongo forest(A home to chimpanzees, monkeys and baboons etc) with rewarding views to the over looking Lake ALbert which is a closure Option to feel the wrath of the rift valley Escarpment. A majestic thrilling insight watching the horizons drain off color all the way from the Butiaba forest escarpments to the dome valleys.

For travelers bypassing Karuma falls to the Murchison falls National Park. Travel to Paara via the northern end on the Chobe Gate and then access Karuma falls with Tangi. There is one gate close to Pakwach covering an area of about 25km2 to paara in addition to Wankwar Gate close to Purongo.

We however advise people with vehicles or Public means to have it in mind that, they have to use the ferry to cross the Nile at Paara. The ferry has fixed crossing intervals, ie. at 07.00 am, and 19.00 pm.

Travel by Air means to Karuma falls. One can decide to have direct flight charters from Kampala to Pakuba Airfield in Murchison. The flight Distance From Kampala to Murchison Falls National Park takes just 1 hour to Pakuba Murchioson.
